Choices

  • I wanted to frame my video in a problem solution structure because In my initial teaching philosophy via alphabetic essay I felt like that approach got at some of the reasoning as to why I teach the way I do. Thus, I started with Friere’s critique as I felt it was appropriate.

  • The colors I used in the GIF (blue and yellow) were chosen because I thought that they were more neutral (compared to black and white), and I wanted my audience to think about how this traditional model of teaching applies to all teachers in every classroom. (Minutes 0 - .30).

  • The sound effect that are included hopefully are nostalgic and help my viewers remember their school experience and that they can relate to this model.

  • I chose to use movement through the still shot on the stages of writing as well as movement on the still shot to hopefully imply that the stages are not static and relate to Shipka’s ideas of the writing process not be as prescriptive. (minutes 2.26 - 2.24).

  • I didn’t have very many pics from my school to use, alas I needed a ton of stock photos, which I did not really feel very authentic and I didnt want my face on the video. The GIF of the classroom setting, the alphabetic essay, and the computer typing were intended to switch from stock videos and pictures and hopefully add some individuality to the video.

Audience

  • Right now, I think that the intended audience is me. I think this project made me articulate my approach in a way that really cemented my reasoning. However, I could see myself in the future remixing this video in order to use it for professional development in my district. Trying to advocate for more tech in the classroom. If this happened I would choose to remove all of the stock images and replace them with images from my classroom as well as products from my classroom, and possibly include some student testimony. I would also like to have a presentation that moved beyond student alphabetic responses, which I will need to develop before adjusting my video.

Purpose / Goal

  • First and foremost I wanted to learn how to use the video software as I could see myself using it in the future.

  • I found this activity helpful in in thinking / rethinking about my justification for how / why I use technology. All of the components in the video I do, and I felt like this assignment gave me the opportunity to boil down my rational.

When students are product focused, they are often short sided in terms of revision. I find that many of my students think believe that...
